September Update (perhaps the first of many this month…)

End of the summer holidays, beginning of a new term, a new academic year, and a new adventure!

Just wanted to give you a quick update about ToastLoveCoffee. Some wonderful, some not so great, but as a wise friend reminded me today; ‘Getting there is half the fun’

So, the best way to catch up / know what’s going on is that we are active on Facebook and Twitter (should come up in a search) but here is a bit more detail, especially for the blog:

We are officially and legally a Community Interest Company (CIC). The Director is me, Anna Dyson, and the Company Secretary is Rebecca Teiger. Insurance and all other legal type paperwork things will all be finalised and signed off hopefully by the end of this week; by the first day of enterprise for sure!

Things have been moving swiftly on most fronts; we have joined The Real Junk Food Network. which firstly aims to intercept as much food as possible which is destined for bins but perfectly delicious and edible. So we are baking with donated ingredients, supplemented with shop bought; we have in the freezer a couple of batches of gingerbread people, and a few cakes including sticky toffee; can’t wait to try that one! The second fabulous aspect of TRJFP is that it operates on a Pay As You Feel (#PAYF) basis so finances really should be NO BARRIER to participation; you come, enjoy, eat, chat, and stick some money in the pot.

Today has seen us pick up some new ingredients for the next batch of baking, finalising the fliers which will hopefully go to print this week, receiving in our bank account a really lovely grant from the Near Neighbours Fund, and 0.01p from PayPal to prove that this will soon be working for online payments too – hurrah!

Today has also seen us be let down by one of our venues 🙁 so we will only be operating to start with at THE HUB on WEDNESDAYS (see below).

We are good to start next week – Wednesdays at The Hub on Hovingham Avenue, LS8 (next to Hovingham Primary School). We are treating the first week (9 Sept) as a dry run, so please do come along, bring people, spread the word, but the caveat is that we haven’t done this before, so please don’t expect a first class experience, and all feedback will be received very positively! We intend to be ready for coffees and teas from 10am-12noon. Perhaps starting a bit earlier, perhaps finishing a bit later – it’s a work in progress!

There is a lot more to share; fun times at Taylors of Harrogate complete with three massive goodie bags of teas and coffees, conversations with friends that have resulted in plugging into new networks, crafting with buttons and canvas, and, most importantly, the individuals whose lives we are already making a difference to from this venture.

Thank you so much for being part of the journey, for your support and for the ToastLoveCoffee… see you at the Hub some time very soon!
